Junior A team through to quarters
Tara Rocks 3-08 v 1-18 Blackwater
Our boys started strong and finished strong in this evenly contested Junior A hurling championship match. With the victory our lads secured their quarter final spot with a game to spare which is great considering its our first year in this grade after winning junior b last season.
We were up by seven points with just 10 minutes gone with scores from Din Brien, Brendan Quirke (who put in an excellent shift over the 60 minutes), Josh and James Dooley. This also included a goal by Brendan, dancing his way through some tackles and managing to kick high to the net. Tara Rocks though had a goal of their own on 14 minutes when a direct ball in wasnt dealt with found its way to a Rock player cutting in from the left to strike to the net. The boys to their credit kept the home team at bay and were leading by 5 at the break.
We were back out to 7 points with 36 on the clock gone before the men in blue got a lifeline with two quick fire goals to bring the game back to a point in which our boys had looked conformtable in. We didnt panic though two James Dooley points along with a Din free had us back out to 3 just a few minutes late. The next 10 minutes was a real battle with both sides finding it hard to get the scores and there were a few nervous moments when Lar had to clear off the line. A Din 65 on 53 minutes followed by a Rocks free kept the score at 3. Jimmy finally gave us some breathing room two minutes to go and we battled hard to see out the game.
Scorers: Din Brien (0-7, 0-6 free, 0-1 65), Brendan (1-1), James Dooley (0-3), Denis Carroll (0-3), Josh Culleton (0-1), Shane (0-1), Jimmy (0-1).
