Big win for inters

Blackwater 3-17 v 1-09 Ballygarrett

A 13 point win for our intermediate team which was our largest winning margin for a number of years at this grade against Ballygarrett on a very warm Monamolin pitch. It was the side wearing black who enjoyed the best of the early play racing into a 2 point lead before Mick, Dean and Og had us up by 3 with 12 gone. A long direct ball into the Ballygarrett goal nearly resulted in a goal only for Seamus shot to be blocked. The game was still very close until the 20 minute when Og made the goal, turning his man to pull of a good save by the Ballygarrett man in the goal but to fell to him again and he pulled to the net. We were unlucky not to have a second goal when Mossy burst through only for to be harshly blown for a free. More points followed with Mick, Suttie and Seanie P to leave 10 between the sides.

Ballygarrett goaled within a minute of the second half after a catch and run through but the best way to reply was a goal of our own which came a minute later, Dean Whelan won the ball in the corner and rounded his man, he still had some work to do but managed to get the strike away for a goal. Ballygarrett responded well with two points before Og was clothes lined when running through for another certain goal, resulting in a yellow and a free scored by Mick with 15 left. A few minutes later we finally got that third goal, Cash winning back the ball, passed to Conor who placed a lovely ball to Pad who nestled the ball into the top corner. Ballygarrett did threaten the goal once more by Peter (who could make his 100th appearance for the club against Oulart) pulled off a diving save. The game petered out for the final few minutes with a late pull by a Ballygarrett player resulted in a straight red card.

So the boys will face local rivals Oulart The Ballagh in Bree next Saturday evening at 6pm in the penultimate round.
