Minors into final

Blackwater 1-12 v 0-10 Ballynestragh Gaels

A strong second half performance saw the boys in green and gold reach the Division one shield final.

The first 30 minutes was a poor one from Blackwaters point of view but they really dug deep in the second half

The game was even between the sides with the game level after 17 minutes, 3 points each, with Ryan unlucky not to goal after 5 minutes with a brilliant stop by the Kilanerin goalie. Scores were hard to come by for both sides with frees the order of the day. Ballynestragh had a purple patch for the next 13 minutes scoring four in a row and the boys in blue pushing in front before the break by four. Killian got us back on the scoreboard with a free before the half time whistle, with 3 between the sides.

We came out with better intent in the second period with Ryan again denied a goal by the Ballynestragh goalie putting the reboud over. Ultan had the score back to 2 with just four minutes of the second period elapsed but the boys from the north of the county responded with 2 frees after the 10 minute. Amazingly that was to be their final score with three excellent Killian frees had the game back to a point with 11 minutes left. On 21 minutes the goal arrived, Ryan had threatened already and this time he wasnt to be denied, quick footing his marker and running from the 30, he shot low to the net. A minute later he repeated the trick only to be hauled down for a free, unfortunately picking up an injury in the progress. Killian slotted over the free with our boys seemed to find an extra gear putting in a strong defensive effort with both Jamie and Calum Mooney at full back keeping out the goals. Our lads held on for the victory and they will play Askamore or HWH Bunclody in the Shield Final with the Brian Redmond trained team in fine fettle going into the championship later this summer.
