U13s start season with victory
Oulart/The Ballagh 0-04 v 1-07 Blackwater
The U13 hurlers met local rivals Oulart/The Ballagh in the first round of the championship on a wet Oulart pitch on Monday evening. The game had been rescheduled due to the fact that the boys are in the Rackard league final on Wednesday evening.
The game was very even for the first 10 minutes, with both sides at 2 points a piece before a very reliable Frankie Cullen free moved us in front. The only goal of the game came a few minutes later, a long ball in was flicked on by Frankie and found its way to the net. The home side replied strongly enjoying some possession and from a free made it just three points between the sides at the half time whistle.
Oulart started the second half where they left off the first, starting strongly and the game was back to 2 points from another free. Frankie pushed that back to 3 again on 7 minutes before the same player was involved again. A lovely ball across from the sideline from Frankie to Eoghan Kehoe who soloed past a player in red and black and put it over off his left. The game became a battle of attrition as the ball stayed around the middle of the park with both sets of backs on top for the next 10 minutes. The Ballagh did have a goal chance when a strong shot was sent towards Eoin Cash but the goalkeeper was very assured and caught it mid air and cleared. Super sub Ollie Walsh put us 5 out before a late Frankie Cullen free from near the sideline made it 6. The boys held on well for the win. Its football next before their next hurling game is against Shelmaliers next Tuesday at home at 7pm.
