Win for B bombers
St. Brigids Blackwater 1-24 v 2-08 Glynn-Barntown
The Junior b hurlers enjoyed a good win in round 8 of the Wexford District hurling championship to leave themselves second in the table.
Even though the scoreline suggests an easy victory, that wasnt the case as Glynn started the better of the teams and were ahead when they goaled with 10 minutes gone. Our lads started to creep into the game and some long range shooting had us ahead at the break by 4.
The second half saw the introduction of the ageless Lar Lacey and he made an immediate impact pointing his first ball. We had the ball in the net a few minutes later with Lar unable to get the ball away close to the goal and Paul Murphy expertly flicking the ball to the net. We continued to take our points including an exceptionally brilliant one from midfield from Kieran Roche. Barntown did have the ball in the next with just 8 minutes left but we replied with with a couple of Wayne O’Connor frees while the game fizzled out in the last 5.
While it was by no means a performance that will be discussed into the long night, it sets our lads up nicely with a winner in the final game taking top of table against St. Annes on the 2nd August at home.
Scorers: Wayne O’Connor 0-08 (0-7 frees), Dean Whelan 0-4, Lar Lacey 0-4, Paul Murphy 1-1, James Dooley 0-3, Kerill Sutton 0-2, Kieran Roche 0-1, Gavin O’Toole 0-1.
