Footballers start season with win
St. Brigids Blackwater 1-19 v 1-03 Shelmaliers
Our Junior footballers started off their league campaign with a win against neighbours Shelmaliers in a very sunny Pairc Naomh Brid. Both sides unfortunately were very depleted with subs at a premium and our lads got to introduce a number of last years winning minor team to the starting line up with Ollie Murphy, Seamus Walsh, Adam Cullen and Alan Malanowski making their debut.
Our lads were quickest out of the traps leading 4 points to 0-1 with 20 minutes gone with our lads controlling proceedings before the Shels scored a goal from nothing to leave just one point in the game at the turn. Our lads thought finally blew off the cobwebs in the second half scoring 1-14 and limiting the Shels to just a point with new recruit Alan Malanowski putting the finishing touch to a brilliantly worked move for a goal with 10 minutes to go.
Dean Whelan 0-3, Conor Sutton 0-5 (0-3 frees), Kevin Corrigan 0-3, Seamus Walsh 0-3, Alan McGuinness 1-0, Robert McGuinness 0-2, Kerill Sutton 0-1, Ollie Murphy 0-1. Dean Wright 0-1.
