Boys into Premier Semi’s

Blackwater 0-10 v 0-07 Oylegate-Glenbrien

The U20 hurlers have reached a Premier Hurling Semi final for the first time in the clubs history in our first ever time at this grade. The match, which has to be said wasnt a great spectable for the neutral was made difficult by the extremely strong wind, which made it hard for shooting.

Feidhlim won the toss in the first half and we played with the elements. Oylegate registered the first point but two Mossy and Pad scores in the following four minutes had us ahead. A Pad free and then Mossy again after a lovely ball by Feidhlim had us leading by 4 and going well. Oylegate though started to get on top and hit two in a row coupled with a few wides and it wasnt another 15 minutes after out last score did we have another on the board with a Pad free. He hit another a minute later before half time, which the first half has to be said was very stop starting in nature due to a large amount of time wasting on O/G behalf.

Feidhlim getting up close and personal

Pad put us 5 in front with a free at the start of the second before 5 minutes in, Shane Butler made a great save in the goal, to put for a 65, which they scored. O/G hit three very poor wides from frees for the next 5 minutes before they brought it back to 3 with still 20 minutes left. Kevin scored a brilliant free before Eoin O’Neill, who had a great game at full back, had to take a few heavy challenges trying to clear a ball and win a free, with Oylegate dropping high balls into the full forward line. Another Pad free with 10 to go had us in a commanding position but Oylegate started to pile on the pressure and had it back to 3 with just 5 minutes left They were unlucky not to goal when Michael Kelly broke through but a combination of Eoin and James Cullen blocked off the threat just before he was about to pull the trigger. Our lads saw out the final 5 minutes to set up a semi final tie with Faythe Harriers next week at home, date and time to be confirmed.
