Juniors enjoy good win
Kilrush 0-12 v 1-11 Blackwater
Our Junior footballers enjoyed a brilliant victory over a Kilrush who hadn’t been defeated in league or championship this season. Our lads still missing a number of players due to exams and holidays were unlucky to be behind at half time as we squandered a number of goal and point opportunities. The men in black led for the first half but we kept in touching distance. Diarmuid Murphy was unlucky not to goal when a rasper of a shot from the 21 yard line hit the outside of the post with 15 minutes gone. Shane also missed an opportunity when he barrelled his way through only to see his shot from close in rise over the bar.
The second half started in the same vain as the first with Kilrush having a 3 point lead pushing that out to four in the first few minutes. They started to take control and it was out to 5 with only 10 minutes of the second half elapsed. We needed something and an off the ball incident when Paul O’Leary was running through seemed to have the desired effect as it finally got our lads going. We tagged on a few scores and our wing backs of Diarmuid Murphy and Ian Curran making brilliant runs up the pitch. One of these runs resulted in Ian winning a penalty after being fouled which Mossy dispatched well. Kilrush couldn’t get the ball out with Dean Wright making a number of catches bossing midfield area and 5 minutes after the penalty we were ahead from a Dean Whelan free. Another Whelan free after Mossy Earle did brilliantly to win it had us up by 3 with still 10 minutes to go. We put in a brilliant defensive performance for the last 10 to keep the Kilrush forwards to just another point.
