Blackwater 2-19 v 2-19 Rathgarogue-Cushinstown

Our intermediate hurlers made a brilliant comeback in the second half to draw with a strong Cushinstown team. We raced into am early 6 points to take the lead after from nice scoring with Ben Redmond, a few Wright frees and a brilliant sideline over the shoulder score from Topar. Cushinstown then went on a scoring spree, scoring the next 2-5 before a Dean Wright free stopped the rot with 10 to go. Cushinstown free taker and Dean Wright swapped frees to leave 6 between the sides at the break.

The second half started the same as the first ended with the free takers of both teams swapping frees. Eoin O’Neill made a brilliant goal saving hook with only a few minutes gone before they pushed the score to 7 points. We finally broke through after Mossy blocked the keeper trying to clear the ball and Conor Sutton pulled low to the net. With 7 minutes gone, Mick Lillis scored an exceptional point after some quick thinking from Topar hitting a sideline ball to Mick who hit first time and over the black spot. A Wright free a minute later and all of a sudden there was just three points in it. Cushinstown though weren’t going to let the lead slip for the next 20 minutes. Mossy was unlucky not to goal after the keeper made a good save but with two minutes to go, Dean Wright caught a puc out and hand passed over his shoulder to Diarmuid who soloed through to finish well to the net. Sides level and we pushed ahead on the next puc out with time up, There was still be some late drama when Mossy was unlucky not to goal after the keeper pulled off two strong saves before Cushinstown went down the other end and pointed to draw level.
