U15s reach county final
Our U15 hurlers reached the Division 2 County Final by defeating Naomh Eanna by 3 points in a sunny and dry Blackwater pitch on Sunday morning. It was Gorey who had the better of the start leading 5 points to 2 with only 5 minutes remaining of the half with all of Goreys scores coming from frees. In fact Gorey didnt score from play until the last few minutes of the game. Our lads also relied on free taking with Barry Whelan scoring a number of points while Ultan O’Reilly picked off some nice scores from play with the sides level at the turn. Blackwater can thank Nathan Moran for his part after he pulled off a wonderful save on 25 minutes to keep Gorey at bay at half time.
The second half was much the same vain as the first with both sets of backs on top before a Barry free and then a Ultan score had us two in front. Just before this a Gorey player was red carded for a dangerous pull on Sean O’Brien. With 20 minutes gone Gorey were unlucky not to goal when a shot for goal rose high and hit the post and was cleared. Three further scores from Eugene and Joe Rossiter had 5 points between the sides with Barry Whelan unlucky not to goal after his low pull hit the post. Gorey started to have a good spell, putting pressure on the Blackwater backs. Our lads though stood solid and saw out the game winning by a final margin of 3 points. They play Shelmaliers in the county final date yet to be decided.
