Nigglers back on top

Inch Road Nigglers won the 2019 Michael Murph Parish League in one of the most exciting Parish Leagues yet. The Fenians still yet to win a game, looked on course to defeat the Heroes after Shane O’Learys Goal in the first half but a Mossy Murphy goal right before half time had the Heroes leading by 3. The Fenians though looking for revenge for a defeat to the Heroes for the past two years started the second half at blistering pace and were ahead going into the final 5. But that all changed when Mossy broke free yet again and placed a lovely handpass to his brother Ollie who pulled to an empty net. The final score was 2-07 to 1-06 in the end.

The second game like the first was exciting up to the finish between Inch Road and Island Rangers. The Rangers were 4 points to 1 up at half time and looked confortable but the Nigglers fight back well to end the game a draw. The Rangers guilty of missing a chance just before the end to win. For a second year in a row, a semi was decided b a free taking competition with the Nigglers coming out on top. So the Rangers are also still waiting for a victory in the competition.

The final was a thrilling one with the Heroes leading 4-1 at half time but the Nigglers had a wind in the second period. Free taking was the order of the day with both Pad and Dean Wright keeping the scoreboard ticking over. The Heroes edged in front with 6 left which meant the Nigglers needed something special. The won a free on the 35 yard line and Dean Wright stepped up a drilled a low ball past a number of bodies into the goal. Darren Byrne followed this up with an exceptional point from near the sideline while further scores from Dean Wright and Mac caused the upset with the pre tournament favourites losing their title. Final score was 1-09 to Nigglers and 0-07 to The Heroes.
