U20s lose by 3 after extra time
Horeswood & St. James 2-23 v 0-26 Blackwater
After being down by 6 points at one stage in the second half, the lads made a brilliant comeback to level it just before the end of normal time. For the amalgamated team, this was there first game after receiving three walkovers in their group games while we only played one game shows that maybe this new grade hasn’t worked. None the less the lads put in a serious effort with some good hurling on show. Dunbrody Gaels as they are known raced into an early lead which they didn’t relinquish for the game, leading 5 – 2 and kept that 3 point distance up until half time. Pad O’Connor was keeping the Blackwater scoreboard ticking over with some excellent striking from distance including a wonder score from on the sideline, he finished with a personal tally of 18 points. Tomas Murphy was introduced for the second half and really made the difference in the corner winning a number of balls. He was unlucky not to goal with 10 left when he managed to scoop the ball over the bar. When the game reached extra time, there was to be plenty of drama with Pad O’Connor twice leaving from frees to bring the game to extra time.
Unfortunately in extra time our lads seemed to run out of steam with Horeswood putting over 6 unanswered points in the first period. We needed a big second period and brought to back to 3 but couldn’t get the goal to get us back level. Still a great effort considering the boys were without the services of Darren, Topar and Darragh Doyle.
