U14s finish strong
Craanford 2-05 v 4-10 St. Brigids Blackwater
The U14s had to finish strong to see off a determined Craanford side in Craanford on Saturday evening. The hone side might have been propping up the foot of the table but you wouldn’t think that with 5 minutes of the second half gone.
The lads couldn’t of asked for a better first 10 minutes leading 1-03 to no score, with the goal coming from the full forward Brian Og after great work from Jay Mooney excellently hitting low to Oge who made no mistake. Aidan Malanowski did well to pop one over to give the boys a 7 point cushion and one would of felt that the boys would of drove on but ‘The ford’ came storming back hitting four unanswered points. We needed a score and we got it with yet again Brian Og giving the goalie no chance. Craanford responded 2 minutes later with a goal of there own to leave just 3 in the game at the turn with Adam Cullen having to pull off a good save a few minutes before this.
Two Brian Og scores in the first few minutes seemed to settle the lads before yet again a long ball in was flicked to the net by Craanford. We needed a score quickly and we got one. An inspirational clearance by Liam Lynch, moved to centre back with Wallace moving to full, was caught well by Brian Og on the run and he was able to put it over from a tight angle from distance. With 14 minutes gone, Alan Malanowski goaled after a great move to put 7 points between the sides leaving no way back for the home side. Two minutes later, young Adam O’Connor put his body on the line stopping a goal bound shot and then winning a free showing that U12s are made of stern stuff, with no less than 5 U12 hurlers in the starting line up. With 5 left a brilliant team goal, you wouldn’t have seen better in Semple stadium this evening, Alan Malanowski ran from midfield, gave a quick pass off his stick to Oge who popped a quick pass to Ollie who was free inside and he drove high to the net capping off a brilliant move. A late Brian Og free put a gloss on the win.
Scorers: Brian Og (2-7, 0-6 frees), Alan Malanowski (1-0), Ollie Murphy (1-0), Aidan Malanowski (0-1), Jay Mooney (0-1).
