Semi Final spot secured with second half display
St. Brigids Blackwater 2-13 v 1-11 St. Annes
With the boys ahead by just one at half time, it was the minor hurlers second half display that secured a semi final spot in front of a massive crowd. The game was nip and took in the first half with neither side able to get a 2 point cushion. Annes might of got the first score but Ben Redmonds was exceptional, a hard ball from Topar was tapped on the hurl, caught with Ben throwing it over the shoulder over the bar. Johnny O’Toole and Annes free levelled the sides with 6 gone before the boys had an excellent goal chance. Ben shot first but it was saved with Lynch getting two shots at the goal but both saved swell. A Topar free with yet again a Johnny O’Toole point after a good solo put two between the sides before Annes responded with two again before the break.
With the lads just up by 1 at the break, Annes equalised almost immediately from a free before they took the lead. A Topar fee levelled it before Annes scored again. The same again three minutes later with an Annes free and a Topar free leveled again. With only 12 minutes left the lads really needed to lift it and this was there best period as they finally started to get on top. A Topar free and then a Mossy solo through where he scored again. Then the game changer, Johnny O’Toole finally got free of the centre back and hit a low ball to Pad who did well to catch at the first time and shot hard to the net, with a big roar from the large Blackwater crowd who was present. Topar capitalised again from a free before Annes finally got another score on the board. Johnny O’Toole pointed with two minutes left and the lads looked to be coasting before the Annes got in for a goal with 2 minutes over normal time. Luckily the lads weren’t to be undone, a long ball in was worked to Patrick O’Connor and his rasper of shot hit the post but Jimmy Kelly was on hand to finish well to the net, semi. final spot secured. Again a ,massive crowd to support the boys with cars parked out the entrance and down the road which is always great to see. The semi final opponents could be Gusserane, Rathnure or Cloughbawn.
Scorers: Kevin Corrigan (0-8 frees), Patrick O’Connor (1-0), Jimmy Kelly (1-0) Johnny O’Toole (0-3), Ben Redmond (0-1), Tomas Murphy (0-1).
