League final spot secured
St. Brigids Blackwater 1-09 v 0-09 St. Patricks.
The Junior B team secured a league final spot against St. Pats on Sunday evening with good conditions for hurling. Both sides were guilty of misses in front of the posts during the game but our lads came out on the right side at the end.
They got a brilliant start when Paul Murphy goaled with 5 minutes gone. A move started by Paul O’Leary and was excellently worked across to Murphy who made no mistake. Murphy nearly had a second goal 3 minutes later pulling low but the Bear in the goal for Pats made a good save. Mossie kept the scoreboard ticking over with some excellent freetaking while Pats also scored a number of frees to keep them in touch. Dixon was winning a number of balls in midfield while Eoin Buttle was having an excellent game at corner back winning a number of key battles with his patent over the head pulls working a number of times. At half time we were leading by 3 points and we scored the first point of the second half with a Mossie free. Pats stayed in touch but couldn’t get any closer than two points and Mossie O’Brien was cleaning up a lot of ball along with Kevin Purcell. One of the scores of the game though came from minor Ben Redmond, winning his own ball on the half forward line near the sideline and turning to strike an brilliant point from about 40 yards. There was a heart stopping moment near the end when a high ball in came back off the post but yet again Eoin Buttle and MJ Kelly were there to see away the danger.
So a good win with a league final appearance to look forward to and some strong performances from Eoin Buttle, Mossie O’Brien, Kevin Purcell, Darragh Doyle (making his adult debut) and Paul O’Leary. Our league final opponents will be St. Pats so heres hoping for a repeat of the scoreline.
