Footballers secure status

The Junior footballers secured their Junior status for another year by defeated Starlights in a warm Oulart on Saturday afternoon. It also saw the return of Aidan Whelan in the goal, playing into his third decade with the club. The lads were well on their way to victory by half time, leading 1-08 to no score with Conor Sutton frees and some strong running from midfield by Denis Carroll and Mick Lillis putting us into a strong position. Lar Lacey had a brilliant chance of goaling when one on one but the Starlights keeper made a good save. Things got even better before the break with Robert McGuinness scoring a 25 yard stunner into the top corner after a strong run up field. Starlights playing with a slight breeze in the second half started to come into the game and were given a lifeline when a kickout reached their corner forward who soloed through to blast to the net with 15 minutes to go. There was a few final hairy moments in the last 10 minutes but our lads secured the victory needed. Unfortunately it left us out of the championship but plenty of positives from the campaign with a number of new minors introduced during the year with no less than 4 starters in their first year at this grade in the match which hopefully bodes well for the future.
