Cracker of a game for U15s
St. Brigids Blackwater 2-09 v 1-09 Davidstown-Courtnacuddy
Whatever it is when a Blackwater team plays at home, they seem to have a fortress mentality as they edged out a previously undefeated Davidstown team in front of a large crowd. Dvaidstown had racked up a number of big wins with Oulart The Ballagh getting closest to them but still losing by 8 points. The lads started at a blistering pace with Jay Mooney unlucky not to goal with his shot unluckily hitting the keeper but he scored a lovely point after 9 minutes. Ciaran Cash was causing the DC defence all sorts of problems and scored a great individual point when soloing from midfield to score off his left. Two Oge free and another Cash point had us leading by 5 before DC scored a goal against the run of play to bring them back into it when Blackwater were enjoying a lot of possession. On 27 minutes, the lads had their deserved goal, Ciaran Cash was tripped going for goal and from the resulting 21 yard free, Brian Og buried it into the bottom corner. They responded just before the half time whistle with just a goal between the sides.
The men wearing red and gold brought it back to 2 before the game was turned on its head by an absolutely outstanding goal. Brian Og won a low ball in, turned his man, dummied around another with the ball on his hurl, flicked it over an oncoming player and while still on his hurl just tapped it past the goalie, a brilliant piece of individual skill, Brian Og free put 6 between the sides but DC started to grow into the game, Joe Rossiter put it back to 6 before Ciaran Cash must of wondered how his goal shot stayed out with 12 minutes left. From then on it was back to the wall stuff with the lads putting there bodies on the line. Stand in goalie Seamus Walsh pulled off two amazing saves in the goal, both from point blank range while DC had brought it back to 3 with 6 minutes still on the clock. Heading into the stretch, they were guilty of hitting a number of wides and kept dropping balls in but the Blackwater defence was more than up to the task. So the lads finish level with Davidstown and Oulart and its unknown how the final placings will be decided but we will update you once we know.
Scores: Brian Óg (2-5, 1-5 frees), Jay Mooney 0-2, Ciaran Cash 0-2,
