B team win in tough struggle

St. Brigids Blackwater 4-09 v 0-18 St. Annes

The Blackwater crowd witnessed a exciting contest in our own pitch on Friday evening last in the junior b championship. The game was as feisty as they come with our lads having defeating St. Annes in last years district final. It was the away team who done all the early running leading by 8 points at one stage in the first half. Luckily though our lads seems to get goals when needed and up stepped Paul Murphy to lash to the net. He repeated the trick a few minutes later to leave just one in the game at the break with the wind at our backs in the second period.

The lads were in the lead with only a few minutes gone with two nice points but yet again the Rathangan men came back and went in from by three points with 20 still left on the clock. But as they say goals win games with Brendan Murphy notching his first after a nice catch and then his second was from a brilliant tap down into his hand and finished low to the net. The Annes were reduced to 14 men when there wing back received a second yellow card.  The lads moved 5 in front but yet again Annes came storming back to leave just one in it with 5 to go. Luckily though the lads won two frees and Wayne put them over from difficult angles and then Paul Murphy gave them a cushion of 4. Annes put over another score but it wasnt enough to stop our lads gaining the win.
