Away win for u15s

Askamore 1-11 v 1-08 St. Brigids Blackwater

An away victory in Ballyroebuck saw the U15 hurlers qualify for a Roinn 1 quarter final with three games to space. This was always going to be a difficult assignment with a number of first team players away including the recently injured Jason Wallace. But in fairness to the lads they really stood up especially in the second half with Liam Lynch giving an exhibition at centre back.

The lads had all the early pressure but didn’t put it on the board with us just leading by a point with 7 gone. We did have a number of goal chances throughout the match but the Askamore keeper pulling off some brilliant saves including when Ultan O’Reilly pulled on the ground and it was heading for the net but the keeper pulled off a great save. The final 15 minutes of the half was a tense affair with the lads pulling three in front. Adam O’Connor managed to pull off some wonderful catches with the lads s=under some pressure.  Disaster struck before half time when a ball was failed to be cleared and the Askamore player pulled to the net.

The first half started at a frantic pace, with Ollie bursting through winning the ball from the throw in, passing to an unmarked Brian Og who struck well but yet again the Askamore keeper pulled off a great save. Liam Lynch scored a brilliant score when he soloed from centre back and pointed two minute later. Askamore levelled before an Og free had us in front again before yet again a goal shot went begging with Jay this time shooting but the goalie pulled off a great save. Three minutes later he was hooked when shooting for goal and the keeper managed to clear. Winning by 3 with 12 left, we need to put in a bit of distance between us and the men in gold and black. We finally got the goal, when a ball into the box was pulled on by a number of players and Ollie Murphy managed to sneak it in much to the surprise of everyone in the crowd who thought it went wide. Askamore enjoyed there best spell then as they started to eat away at our lead and it was down to 3 with a few minutes left. They scored a free with time up on the clock before Brian Og won the puc out and running through was hauled down.He put over the free with the resulting puc out the ref blowing the whistle.

Scorers: Brian Og Curran (0-7, 0-4 frees), Ollie Murphy (1-1), Joe Rossiter (0-1), Liam Lynch (0-1), Jay Mooney (0-1)
