Blackwater 3-09 v 1-09 Davidstown-Courtnacuddy

A 6 point victory in the end but the game was far closer at stages throughout the match that the final scoreline suggests. Davidstown having suffered a large defeat against Monageer last week welcomed back a number of their players while our team was much changed due to ongoing injuries and player unavailability.

The game was in the melting pot up until 20 minutes gone, we had spurned a number of goal chances before Tomas Murphy won a ball soloed down the line and while going for a point, the ball dropped short only for Mick Lillis to punch to the net. We lead by 5 at this point but were missing a number of scores and kept Davidstown in the game when just before half time disaster struck, a misplaced pass by us was won by the men in red and they finished to the net to leave just two in it.

That was back to 1 with only a couple of minutes gone with Davidstown’s free taking ability was keeping them in touch and we finally didn’t get ahead until Darragh Doyle, (who scored 1-2 when coming on as a second half substitute) expertly slotted home from a tight angle into the corner. We had missed a high number of goal opportunities up until this with Feidhlim Roche missing a near certain goal shot after making a brilliant run from corner back. The lads with a new lease of life started to control the game with the full back line in especially good form and Pad O’Connor carrying the ball well for the last 10. Tomas Murphy finally made sure of the points when he chipped the keeper and the lads held possession well to finish up the game.
